Assignment 47: The Back Story...
For this story to make sense to you I'll probably have to give you some background.
I suppose the most logical place to start would be with The Organization.
No one knows when it began or who started it.
Rumors of its origin are rampant - even within The Organization itself. Some say that it was originated
by a handful of renegade NSA operatives living in exile somewhere in South America. Over time,
these agents had become fed up with government restrictions and international protocol and proceeded to do
whatever it took, regardless of the consequences, to take down criminal targets. Highly effective but highly volatile,
the US government had no choice but to pull the plug on a vigilante unit they could no longer control.
Others believe it was created by a man known only as "the Texan". He was "old money" from the south. After visiting
one of his facilities in a third world country with his new bride, he was appalled by the overt
corruption and injustice. The kidnapping and subsequent murder of his wife prompted him to take matters into
his own hands. He assembled a band of mercenaries and exacted his revenge in ways too gruesome to describe.
It still remains unresolved which, if either, of these stories is the truth.
Regardless of its origins, The Organization has evolved into a black ops ghost unit
(meaning there is no way to even prove its existence) with a single mandate - to dismantle, disempower
or eliminate any threats posed by international fugitives or criminal factions by any means necessary.
That could mean anything from wiping out the offshore accounts of known criminals to wiping out the criminals
themselves.
To achieve those ends The Organization is split into two main branches - Alpha and Omega.
The Alpha branch handles the EDT (Electronic Disruption Tactics) missions. I gotta hand it to the Alphas - they've
"recruited" (most times voluntarily) some of the best programmers and hackers on the planet. Electronically they could track, eavesdrop
on and/or manipulate the assets of most criminal targets. Believe it or not, some of the more established factions employ hackers
of their own so from time to time the fight for justice takes place on virtual battle fields. My section,
the Omega branch, did things the old fashioned way - in the field, purely "hands-on". We specialized
in what the Orgainzation referred to as LRT - Lethal Resolution Tactics. That's Organization-speak for saying we were a band of
highly-trained assassins. The targets we neutralized were truly the scum of the earth - human traffickers (yes, in
the 21st century slavery is very much alive and very profitable) pirates, drug lords, terrorists and everything in between.
Each mission was considered an Assignment. I did 46 of them before I had to go underground to save my...No need
to get into all that now - there isn't time.
I've given you enough information to get started. Don't worry, I'll fill you in along
the way with what you need to know.
And no need to look for me - I'll find you...
Mason out.
